What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check, money order, or cashier’s check by mail or in-person. Visa, Discover, and MasterCard credit card or debit card in person or over the phone. ISAQR app and online at www.gotomyunion.com.

Must I come to the hall to pay?

No, except for cash payments. Checks, money orders, and cashiers’ checks may be mailed. Visa, Discover, and MasterCard may be called in.

Can I set up automatic withdrawal to my checking account, or automatic payments from my credit/debit cards?

Yes. Fill out an authorized agreement for automatic deposit or ACH credit form.

When are dues due?

Dues are due on the first of the month to be considered “on-time,” and must be received by the last day of the month to not be late.

Must I pay monthly?

No, you may pay as many months in advance as you desire.

Is there a “grace” period?

Yes, there is a three-month grace period. However, if you go beyond (3) months without paying dues, then you will be fined a $50 reinstatement fee by the UA.

What is a reinstatement fine or fee?

A reinstatement fine or fee is a fine of $50 by the UA for not paying dues within a 3-month period, meaning the dues have to be posted to your account on the Local’s accounting software within the 3-month period. If you owe an “R” fee at the time of your death, then it will void your death benefit (see Death Assessments below). If you have paid an “R” fee of $50 within 3 to 6 months of your death, it will void your Death Benefit. If you owe an “R” fee, you have no voice or say in the Union, nor can you vote in any election until you have been a member in financial good standing for (1) calendar year from the date your “R” fine is posted to your account, and you cannot run or hold office for (2) calendar years.

What does it mean by being expelled?

When dues are (6) six months delinquent, you are expelled, and you are no longer a member of the Union and must reinstate brand new to be in the Union again.

Are membership dues taken out of my paycheck?

No, working assessments (Work and TARP) are taken out of your check. Monthly membership dues are your responsibility.

What are working dues?

July 2018 working dues are 3.5% (.035) of your gross pay, and TARP assessments are 1% (.01) of gross pay.

Are dues tax deductible?

Some are, you will have to discuss this with your accountant.

DEATH ASSESSMENTS

What is the purpose of death assessments?

They fund a $5,000 burial reimbursement payment from Local Union 430. You must be a member in financial good-standing at the time of your death, nor have paid a reinstatement fee within 3 months prior to your death. Whoever signs your itemized funeral bill and presents a complete, legible copy of both the funeral bill and death certificate will receive the $5,000 funeral reimbursement funds.

(NOTE: The Local’s funeral reimbursement of $5,000 is not an insurance benefit, and is counted as other income. Therefore a 1099-Misc. will be issued as required by the Internal Revenue Service.)

Does the UA have a burial reimbursement?

Yes, it’s based on years of membership. The requirements are the same as the Local’s, however their contribution is an insurance benefit, and no 1099-Misc. will be required from the UA. See below:

Length of continuous membership Life insurance benefit
>6 months $2500

Who is eligible for this reimbursement?

Any member who is in good standing at the time of his/her death, which means all dues and death assessments are paid current — and for the UA reimbursement, a reinstatement fee cannot have been paid or owed within 3 months of the date of death.

How do I assign a Beneficiary?

The person who signs the final funeral bill is the person who receives reimbursement funds.

Can this be assigned directly to the funeral home?

Yes, the funeral home will provide an “Assignment of Benefits” form to the Local, upon request.

Do I have the option of not paying Death Assessments?

No, not paying death assessments is not an option. All members pay this (except for Fifty-Year Life members). Death Assessments are due upon receipt.

How much are assessments?

They are $5.00 per death, assessed in groups of six deaths, or $30.00 per 6 deaths assessed on post cards designated by the year and number of the assessment. For example: 06-01, 06-02, or 07-01.

Is this assessed monthly?

No, only after 6 members have died are assessment postcards mailed.

When is payment due?

Payments are due upon receipt.

What if I refuse to pay?

Your dues will not be accepted, and after 6 months you will be expelled and have to reinitiate. Past due assessments are due and payable at the time of re-initiation.
